The Tree of Life symbolized power, divine intelligence and the abundance of nature. The Éireannach or Irish people had a deep gratitude and respect for nature. They held sacred the immense power of mighty trees such as oaks, hemlocks and ash and their huge branches and their huge root systems that were under the trees and were mini ecological systems.
The most sacred of trees was the oak or ‘dair’ in ancient Gaelic. It is believed that both the word druid and the modern word “door” come from this ancient Gaelic word. It was regarded as the door to heaven or the other world.
