Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov (1870–1924), better known by his pen name Lenin, is considered the founder of the Soviet Union. During the October Revolution, the Communists took power in Russia under his own leadership. He remained head of government and party leader until his death. Lenin was one of the most influential figures of the 20th century and had a great impact not only in the Soviet Union, but also in states dependent on it, such as the German Democratic Republic. This collection includes two Soviet commemorative coins, one commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Revolution and the other the 100th anniversary of Lenin’s birth, as well as a stamp from the GDR commemorating his 90th birthday.
