The round coins in this collection highlight the rebuilding of the cathedral. The intersecting lines around the front of Notre-Dame symbolize the presence of scaffolding, upon which rests the text “Rebâtir Notre-Dame” (Reconstruction of Notre-Dame). Each letter of the text is placed on a different level of the scaffolding. The back focuses on the men and women working on the construction site of Notre-Dame. Illustrations by artist Arthur Bonifay highlight the craftsmen and women who helped rebuild the Gothic cathedral to its original state. Carpenters, aerialists, masons… Today’s craftsmen and master craftsmen pay homage to the original builders of the cathedral. They perpetuate old practices while using more modern techniques. Through their work they help to transmit their exceptional know-how.
