€2 Coin, 100 Years of Basketball in Lithuania, Lithuania, 2022

This €2 commemorative coin celebrates a century of Lithuanian basketball. The obverse features a central depiction of Lithuania’s map outline as a basketball court, with the inscriptions ‘LIETUVA’ and ‘1922-2022’ arched around the coin. The Lithuanian Mint’s logo and the 12 stars of the EU are also present, encircling the design. Regarding the coin: This special €2 coin marks the 100-year anniversary of basketball in Lithuania. The match on April 23, 1922, between the Lithuanian Physical Education Union (LFLS) and the national team of the temporary capital (Kaunas), which LFLS won with a score of 8:6, is considered the country’s first basketball game and the birth of Lithuanian basketball.
