I’m a poor lonely cowboy and I’m far from home… With this sentence ends almost all the adventures of Lucky Luke, imagined by the Belgian comic book writer Maurice de Bevere and better known by the pseudonym Morris. Accompanied by loyal followers, Dolly and Radanplan, Lucky Luke travels the wild plains of the Far West to fight crime and injustice since 1946. During his long and rich career as a cowboy, he has put more crooks behind from the bars by all the sheriffs in America combined. Billy The Kid, Jesse James, the Dalton brothers and many other armed robbers are some of them. The Lucky Luke series has become one of the most popular European comics of all time. Since its inception, more than 300 million albums have been sold worldwide, the series has been translated into approximately thirty languages, and has been presented as an animated series in approximately fifty countries. According to experts, the stories written by Asterix screenwriter René Gossini from 1955 to 1977 are among the best. Morris died in 2001, but unlike Hergé’s Tintin, Lucky Luke’s story is continued by other designers and writers such as Achdé and Gerra. After Tintin, Suske & Wiske, Spirou and many other heroes in Belgian comics, Lucky Luke now has his own currency.
