This collectible 2 Euro coin, issued in 2021, honors the 150th anniversary of Rome being declared the capital of Italy.
The coin’s central design features a detail from the sculpture “Dea Roma” (Goddess Rome) by Angelo Zanelli, which is placed at the center of the Altare della Patria, a grand monumental complex dedicated to the Italian nation located in Rome’s Vittoriano complex.
At the top of the design, the inscription “ROMA CAPITALE” is present, while on the right, the dates “•1871•2021•” indicate the year Rome was proclaimed the capital and the year of the coin’s issue, respectively. On the left, the acronym of the Italian Republic “RI” and the mint mark “R” of the Rome Mint are inscribed. At the bottom, the initials “UP” of the designer Uliana Pernazza are displayed.
The coin has a diameter of 25.75 mm, weighs 8.50 grams, and is bimetallic. The outer ring of the coin depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.
