A collectible coin dedicated to Andreas Kalvos, one of the most significant Greek poets of the modern era, born in Zakynthos in 1792 and died in 1869.
Kalvos, with his remarkable neoclassical education and romantic ideals, expressed both the revolutionary ideas of his time and his personal vision through his poetry.
This coin, minted by the Greek Mint, features a portrait of Andreas Kalvos on the national side. Around the inner edge on the left, the full name ‘ANDREAS KALVOS 1792-1869’ is inscribed, along with the year of minting and an anthemion, the emblem of the Greek Mint.
The design of the coin is completed with the monogram of the artist Georgios Stamatopoulos, which appears on the right side of the design. On the inner surface to the right, the words ‘HELLENIC REPUBLIC’ are inscribed. The outer ring of the coin depicts the 12 stars of the European flag, symbolizing Greece’s strong connection with the European Union.
This unique and rare collectible coin is an exceptional addition to any coin collection, serving as a memento of the life and work of one of Greece’s most important poets.
