Get a piece of Olympic history with the collectible €2 coin from Greece issued in 2004 to honor the Athens Olympic Games. The official commemorative €2 coin, issued by the Bank of Greece in 2004 in 50 million pieces, is the first €2 commemorative coin released in history, featuring our own Discobolus of Myron! To the left of the Discobolus, the logo “ATHENS 2004” and the five Olympic rings representing the five continents are depicted. Minted to honor the splendid Athens Olympic Games in 2004, it established a tradition. Since then, all Eurozone countries began minting €2 commemorative coins to mark historical events. The Discobolus depicted on the coin is a work by the artist Myron and represents an exceptional bronze statue of ancient Greek sculpture from the 5th century BC. Today, the statue is displayed at the British Museum in London.
This coin connects the collector with a globally distinguished historical event while simultaneously enhancing the value of their collection with an element rarely found in such a condition of preservation.
