Each curve and line tells the story of the duality of human nature and the transformative power of love. An amazing coin inspired by the famous fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast! It was first published in 1741 (!!!!!) and was written by the French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbeau de Villeneuve. Her long story was condensed, rewritten and republished in 1756 by Jean-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, which ended up being the most widely used version of the tale. Some of the earliest stories that were influenced were Lucius Apuleius’ Cupid and Psyche, as well as Giovanni Francesco Straparola’s The Pig King. According to researchers from the universities of Lisbon and Durham, the roots of the story go back 4,000 years.
