Collector’s Silver 50p Coin : an official British coin issued in limited numbers with a portrait of the new King on the obverse. This collector’s coin is from a new Royal Mint collection, commemorating the life and legacy of Queen Elizabeth II who passed away on 8 September 2022.
these coins are the first to be issued in Great Britain and depict the portrait of Charles III as King on the obverse It is the work of sculptor Martin Jennings and shows the new monarch facing right, the opposite direction from Queen Elizabeth (a tradition dating back to the seventeenth century).
The reverse of this coin is inspired by the 1953 crown, to mark the coronation of the late Queen. The arrangement of the royal emblems around a central crown with the national flowers was designed by Edgar Fuller and Cecil Thomas. The pattern has been modified to include the year of issue: 2022. It is a tribute to British coinage heritage and to the memory of Elizabeth II, seventy years after her accession to the throne.
This double weight Piedfort coin is struck in 16 grams of 925 silver. The thickness is twice the thickness of standard 50p in circulation. Delivered in special Royal Mint packaging with an enclosed certificate of authenticity.
