Description: The design features a bronze sculpture of two Carabinieri on patrol in a storm (Pattuglia di Carabinieri nella Tormenta), a replica of which will be erected in June 2014 in the gardens of the Quirinal Hill. The Carabinieri are Italy’s gendarmerie. It was established in 1814 as a service of the army in the Pedemontium of the Kingdom of Sardinia-Piedmont. Today, they serve an estimated 110,000 men and women and are a complete, independent force of action – apart from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. . Organizationally, they belong to the Ministry of Defense, however, operationally they are subject, like all police units, to the Ministry of the Interior[122]
