Subject: Ġgantija Temples Quantity: 350,000 coins Description: The coin depicts the Ġgantija temples located on the island of Gozo. Ġgantija is the name of a complex of megalithic temples dating back to the Neolithic period. It is one of the oldest independent structures worldwide and one of the oldest worship sites. The Ġgantija temples were built around the 36th century BCE, predating Stonehenge and the Egyptian Pyramids. In the upper right part, the inscription “ĠGANTIJA TEMPLES” is displayed, and below are the years “3800-3200 BC.” In the bottom left part, the name of the issuing country “MALTA” is shown, and below it is the year of issue “2016,” framed by the distinctive marks of the mintmaster and the mint’s mark.
