2 €, 100th Anniversary of the First South Atlantic Ocean Aerial Crossing, Portugal, 2022

This €2 coin celebrates the centenary of the first aerial crossing of the South Atlantic Ocean, achieved by Portuguese pilot Sacadura Cabral and navigator Gago Coutinho between March 30 and June 17, 1922. Their journey was divided into stages and, although it spanned 79 days, the actual flight time was only 62 hours and 26 minutes. The center of the coin features an airplane with the issuing country ‘Portugal’ and the dates ‘1922-2022’ indicating the year of the flight and the coin’s issuance, respectively. It also bears the title: ‘Travessia do Atlântico Sul’ (Centenary of the South Atlantic Crossing).
