The Morgan silver dollar was first minted from 1878-1904 and again in 1921. The original dollars passed through American hands at the end of the nation’s westward expansion and the beginning of the industrial revolution. The legacy continues with the Morgan Silver Dollar Proof Coin that showcases the exceptional craftsmanship that the United States Mint has to offer. Proof coins are hand processed, polished and cut at least twice, giving them a matte design against the stunning mirror-like background.
The obverse (head side) features a profile of Liberty, adorned with a hat, and crown with the word “LIBERTY”. Around the figure are 13 stars, “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “2023”. The reverse of the coin depicts an eagle with spread wings, arrows and an olive branch. Below the eagle, there is a wreath. Back inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “ONE DOLLAR”.
