Anyone who thinks of Vincent Van Gogh usually thinks of Sunflowers. This 1889 painting was used as inspiration for the coincard and medal. The coincard contains a medal and 50 euro cents to celebrate 50 years of the Van Gogh Museum. The medal features one of the sunflowers on the obverse and the logo of the 50th anniversary of the Van Gogh Museum on the reverse. The obverse depicts a part of the masterpiece Sunflowers (1889): alternating sketch and painting along with the name of Vincent van Gogh.
