Giuseppe Verdi (1813 – 1901) was an Italian composer, primarily known for his operas and considered one of the greatest composers of the 19th century. Some of his most famous works include “La donna e mobile” from Rigoletto, “Va, pensiero” (Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves) from Nabucco, “Libiamo ne’ lieti calici” (the Drinking Song) from La Traviata, and the “Grand March” from Aida. Celebrating 700 years since the birth of Giovanni Boccaccio. Description: The coin features the head of Giovanni Boccaccio turned three-quarters to the right, based on a fresco by Andrea del Castagno dating from around 1450 AD (located in Florence at the Galleria degli Uffizi). Below the head, in a semicircular arrangement, the inscription “BOCCACCIO 1313 2013” appears, and to the right, in a parallel arrangement, the letters “R” (the monogram of the Rome Mint), “RI” (the monogram of the Italian Republic), and “m” (the monogram of the designer Roberto Mauri).
