2 Euro, Colored, Lithuania, 2015. Lithuania joined the European Union in 2004 and adopted the euro as its currency on January 1, 2015, replacing the former national currency, the litas. Lithuanian euro coins share a common design across all denominations, featuring the ‘Vytis’ (a mounted knight), which is the national emblem of the country. The word ‘LIETUVA’ (Lithuania) and the 12 stars of the European Union also appear. The design was created by sculptor Antanas Žukauskas and may undergo minor modifications before minting begins.
