28,90

Official colored commemorative 2 euro coin, weighing 8.5 grams with a diameter of 25.75 millimeters, issued by the Austrian Mint in 2007 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome. The coin features the text of the Treaty signed by the six founding countries, with the cobblestone design (created by Michelangelo) of the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome in the background, where the Treaty was signed on March 25, 1957. Inscriptions ‘TREATY OF ROME 50 YEARS’, ‘EUROPE’, and the issuing country’s name appear in the respective Eurozone languages or in Latin. Although the inscription varies from country to country, the design remains the same. The Treaty of Rome established the European Economic Community and set forth a path that ultimately led to the introduction of the euro in 1999 and the euro banknotes and coins in 2002. On the occasion of the anniversary celebration on March 25, 2007, the Eurozone countries decided to jointly issue this commemorative coin. Its design was selected after a competition organized by the European mints. The perimeter of the coin features the 12 stars of the European Union.
