Commemorative colored 2 euro coin for the 500th anniversary of Pinturicchio’s death. Bernardino di Betto was an Italian Renaissance painter. He acquired his nickname, Pintoricchio, meaning ‘little painter’, due to his short stature and used it to sign some of his works. The coin depicts a scene from the work ‘Jesus conversing with the Doctors of the Law’. Completed in 1501, it is an example of religious painting that demonstrates the fresco technique. In the foreground, the fresco ‘Jesus conversing with the Doctors of the Law’; at the bottom, the inscription ‘SAN MARINO’ in a semicircle; on the left, the letter ‘R’, symbol of the Italian mint; at the base of the fresco, the creator’s name ‘MOMONI’; at the top of the fresco, the inscription ‘PINTURICCHIO’ in a semicircle and below it the years ‘1513’ and ‘2013’
