The Elysee Treaty was a friendship agreement between France and West Germany, signed by President Charles de Gaulle and Chancellor Konrad Adenauer on January 22, 1963, at the Elysee Palace in Paris. The signing of this treaty laid new foundations for the relationship between the two states and ended centuries of Franco-German rivalry.
